The Brothers Grimm is a book cover design for the famous 19th century folk and fairy tales by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. The original tales are as violent and disturbing as they are wise and beautiful, and the challenge was to create a design that reflected the dark side of the tales as well as the magical.

The design for the cover reflects the strange and surreal tone of the original stories. Branches and cotton wool make up the handmade 3D forest scene that piques the viewer’s curiosity and invites them to enter into the dark world of the Brothers Grimm. Handmade typography appears starkly against the gloomy background and becomes entangled in the mysterious forest scene, completing the composition, and making the design as unique as the tales themselves.
